Suwanee began as an Indian village about 3 miles southwest of the current downtown area along the banks where Suwanee Creek runs into the Chattahoochee River.

At the time of its incorporation in 1949, Suwanee was about 3.1 square miles. Today, Suwanee incorporates nearly 7,000 acres, or about 10.8 square miles. The City’s 1970 population of 615 has mushroomed to more than 16,000

Suwanee was  voted among the "Top 10 Best Places to Live" by "Money Magazine" in 2007. In addition to the developing parts of Suwanee, there is a new and attractive park, Suwanee Park. It is located at basically the center of Suwanee.
